Guy Hammett is the head of home audio in the consumer electronics team at Futuresource Consulting. Guy joined Futuresource in 2016 and has worked in a variety of different Consumer Electronics areas, both continuous tracking services and one-off custom projects, and has specialised in audio research for the last eight years. He currently heads up Futuresource Consulting’s quarterly Home Audio tracking reports, twice yearly market reports, annual loudspeaker, luxury audio and automotive audio reports forecasting out to 2030 and regularly represents Futuresource at trade conferences across the globe.

The smart glasses category is entering the audio conversation at a moment of broader industry transition, as mature core segments collide with shifting user behaviours and an innovation cycle increasingly shaped by software, ecosystems, and AI. Today’s smart glasses remain a relatively basic audio form factor, often delivering incremental convenience over truly novel experiences. But the trajectory is exciting. As displays improve, devices become truly untethered, and AI capabilities move closer to the user, smart glasses could become a meaningful new surface for everyday audio engagement. The substantial R&D flowing into adding eSIMs, enabling standalone connectivity, positions smart glasses as potential competitors to smartwatches and smart rings, not just companions within a smartphone-led ecosystem.
